His Holiness the Dalai Lama is continuing his U.S. tour, traveling from the White House last week to Florida and then out to the West Coast. It's a shame that he has to get the second-class treatment from the Obama administration. I thought certainly Obama would have enough courage to invite the Dali Lama into the Oval Office. I mean, what could go wrong? Maybe China might get mad and put lead in our toys? poison our food? hack into our computer networks? Oh, wait. They did that.
But His Holiness has a good sense of humor. One thing about being Buddhist, you don't find pride to be a strong characteristic. Here's what he said about his White House visit.
The Dalai Lama repeatedly praised the U.S., and said he liked the informality of Americans, as he stiffened up to impersonate what he described as the more serious British and Japanese. But he said Americans also had a tendency to grow too downtrodden by hardship, as in the current economy.
"Too much demoralized, too much sad is not good," he said.
Dressed in a crimson robe and sandals, the 75-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner sat cross-legged atop an armchair at center stage at Nova.
His Thursday meeting with President Barack Obama was mentioned briefly, saying he spoke of the inherent equality of each person. "You and me, we are same - same human being," he said he told the president. He rubbed his head, saying he had a similar hairstyle to Obama, and pulled his right ear outward to poke fun at one of the president's features.
He's a great man. Brit Hume could take lessons. China gets upset about him visiting the White House? Fuck them. Maybe they need to loosen their grip before they lose control of their society.

"China gets upset about him visiting the White House? Fuck them."
Sounds about right to me.
