The current Commander in Chief is incapable of command. The troops should be withdrawn at once for their own safety.

Given that speech of Rep.Eric Massa, it's not a question of competency of command, Tom White, but all the other major factors: lack of will of the Afghan peoples to clamour for and organise institutions for central representative government. Corrupt government. Corrupt or intimidated officials. And people who frankly don't understand the fundamentals of building a Western style democracy. It isn't their fault. Too many cooks, too many recipes. No commander can be all things.

It is an absolute waste of time to try to Nation Build in Afghanistan. First, the people of Afghanistan are incapable of sustaining a Democratic form of government, and this president is not Democratic. He will make Afghanistan in his own vision. Not a worthy goal even if it would succeed.
We simply need to leave. There is nothing to gain from staying.

Tell that to the rest of the GOP Tom. Seems like they want to stay there for a long, long time...not to mention it was their clustermess to begin with...

Honestly, what is there to accomplish? Obama said he knew where Osama was hiding. Apparently he lied.
These are stone age people that are perfectly happy with that.
They are not ready for anything more than tribal government. That is all they have known. Perhaps a more evolved form of government will work in Kabul, but the rest of the country is not.
We will continue to have problems with this area. I say pull out and every couple of years, carpet bomb the hell out of it. Just for the prophylactic effect.
But let's get the boots off the ground.
